Nielsen Update.

Well its been a while! Life has been flying by fast here at home.

So far things have been going fairly smoothly. I am working as a camp Warden at a Scouts Camp. That is really fun since I get to work outside and watch scouts try to learn how to paddle a canoe! I have only been working for about 3 weeks now and have a crazy sunglasses tan line!

I'm not quite sure what is up for me in the fall as of yet. I hope to go back to school and keep going on my BA, but I am feeling that maybe taking a year off to go live what I've learned is better for me. So if you all could pray for me about that.

Kailyn is coming out to he praries in 1.5 weeks! :) I'm really excited. I am planning lots of cool like trips for us while she is here.

Well all for now! Hope you all are having a great summer.

PS - I haven't heard anything form Lisa and how her Africa trip is going, so if you have any news or emails post em up, I'm sure we'd all love to see how things are going.

Dave's Big News

Well, it seems that Dave is having difficulty getting this message out, so I thought I'd help him out. I don't know, maybe I was the only one that didn't hear right away, but just in case, here's the email that I didn't get...

"Well this past saturday I got engaged. I have known Janine Paetkau since grade seven and we started to date two Christmas's ago. Also if we havn't talked for a while I am working at Ness lake Bible Camp in PG and will be here for the next 5 years.

Guy version
-ate, asked Janine to marry me then went on a canoe trip

Girl Version
-After I finally got the ring I was totally broke and all I had was the gift cerificates that the jewler gave me for buying such a huge purchase. So we went out to eat and had a good chat. We drove out to Ness at around 7 and "found" a row boat with paddles, life jackets, wood, matches, marshmellows, blankets and a few other things. We were just heading out when I remebered that I forgot something at camp so we turned around and parked on the docks. Janine got out of the boat and I started to get really shakey. I told her that I loved her (which I had waited until then to say-wanted to mean it and for it to be a commitment) reached into my pocket and fumbled with the ring and dropped it. BLINK BLIP. The ring went right into the water!! I ripped off my sandles and dove in after it. I was freaking out and Janine was very concerned and could not believe it.
This is the part when I mention that I went to Zellars with Colin and had bought a ten dollar fake ring. I had the real ring in my pocket with a saftey pin and the fake one was gone. The whole drop was a set-up and she didn't find out until the next day when her sister told her. Anyway we went out canoeing into a great sunset and talked for hours around a little campfire then paddled back in the dark with a totally clear sky and the Northern lights. Great night and I am skipping a lot but great things are happening and I can't wait until October when we are going to get married.

Kaleo first year I can't wait to see some of you ( obviosly not everyone can make it out) under better circumstances then Brits passing.

Please let me know know within the week if you would like to come. Send me your name and current adress.

Hope to talk to you soon.

Dave Horton"

God Down Under

When we first started seeking the place God would meet with us on my sabbatical, we had no idea what he was going to do. Yesterday our Kiwi friends drove us up a long, twisty driveway through jungle growth, and there it was. It is an incredibly beautiful place: a large and modern house, deeply polished hardwood floors, beams and trim made of some exotic wood, more glass than walls, and this view from the front deck:

It is sub-tropical here and though it is equivalent of mid-November back home, the temperature is the equivalent of mid-summer: 25 C. and a little humid. We are told these aren’t strictly palm trees, but they look like it to us and they grow everywhere. A big crazy-looking bird (like a purple chicken) just walked by as I wrote that last sentence. And a bunny. And a peacock just jumped up on the deck!! It’s a wonderland. There are apparently some beautiful beaches nearby, and we will get to them sometime. For now we are quite happy just to be here (okay, now a whole harem of peacocks just went by!).

We had no difficulties on the way here. Our friends John and Michelle who have helped us get here have been very kind, and we are at rest and have no plans. Thanks so much for your prayers. God is so good.

Jimbaddical

Somehow I knew this was going to happen. After months of wondering where on earth God was hiding so we could go and find him there, he whistled from a bush near a beach in New Zealand. Monday we got a call that we had been offered a house with ocean views on the north end of the North Island for the time of my sabbatical, and yesterday I booked our flight to Auckland - and we leave on Friday! Whew. It is hard to believe, even as I am writing it down. Here is where we are going:

Kerkeri is kinda in the middle of the map, and we will be about 40 minutes away, in view of the water. And if you think I will be far from Kaleo, take a look at the name of the next town to the northwest! It will remind me of you. We fly out about 5 PM Friday, pass through LA and arrive in Auckland about 9 AM our time. Except it won't be Saturday, it will be Sunday. Saturday, May 14, 2005 will simply not happen for us - we will miss it completely. Crazy. Our friends from Kerikeri who will be in Auckland this weekend will drive us the four hours north on Sunday, and because they just bought a van they have offered us their car for the time we will be here. Amazing. God is good.

So we will appreciate your prayers as we wrap up our lives here in two days (including a tooth that is giving me problems) and get ready to chase after God, who apparently is in New Zealand. More to follow soon...

I heard Jordan fell off the face of the planet!

Well this rumor is false. I have decided to stay on this planet for a little longer before going to my home planet of Zebulon 5.

I am now at home. It was an interesting adventure getting here. My parents car broke down, so that landed us 2 days in Golden, BC waiting for the car to repaired. But eventually we made it home. The colors here are starting to turn green. The wind is ... COLD! And there are cats everywhere.

I hope to start working soon at a Scouts camp as maintance there. It should be fun, outside work and its only about 5 minutes from my house 8)

All for now!

The Life of Dotto!

So if any one reads this site n e more- here's a little up-date on the life of Dotto!

Advanced Crew is amazing. This weekend was my first weekend being in charge of dish pit. Wow I tell you I got a lot to learn about organising people ect. but it was amazing! I had really good bonding times with the CIT's and there an amazing group of Kids. I was so privladged to have a good talk with one of the girls last night, I am already getting to speak into her life which is amazing! It makes me not miss counceling as much, It's kinda like I'm just counseling older kids! I'm UBER EXCITED TO SEE HOW gOD IS GOING TO SPEAK INTO THEIR LIVES AND CHANGE THEM SO MUCH THIS SUMMER! If you want to pray for me this summer I'd love if you could pray that I will do everything possible to be a servant this summer. The the dish pitters would learn so much about the servant heart of Christ!

Oh side note on that- We are having dance parties in the Dish Pit! We actualy are taking 5 min. breaks moving all the tabels away and dancing like crazzy! It's good to get the CIT'S all bonding, making fun memories, getting them to come out of their shells, really Dance Breaks should be manditory-They make Dish Pit sooo fun! (even if it makes people thing I'm crazzy!)

Other Interesting stuff. I only have 1 roomie thus far, most other rooms have like 3 or 4 but I only have one. And it's so funney the roomie that God chose to put in my room. Her name is Kristie and she was one of Jamie's best freinds. (Jamie was Jordan, Britt''s brother)'s fiance. She did in the car accident with Britt and Jordan) So that is so random, she had never been to camp before. So I'm excited to see where God takes our friendship-I have already been learning so much from her Just in the past few Days! God is definatel using her to speak into my life and it is definalely a good thing she is my new roomie!

Well I miss you all! I'd love to get an update on your lives! Anyone up for some sort of trip on the island?? Camping trip, surf trip-It could be fun! Now go and Post something up!
